After designing an oversized mushroom throw pillow, I decided that it needed a friend, so I couldn't resist designing an oversized acorn to keep it company! This fun acorn throw pillow makes another great whimsical fall decoration or you can use it for whatever you'd like (my children keep requesting that I crochet a giant squirrel now, but the madness has to end somewhere). I hope that you all enjoy this fun free crochet pattern! This pattern is large and will use a LOT of stuffing, but it's all one piece so it actually comes together fairly quickly with zero sewing required (always a win in my book). I made this pattern on a whim and just grabbed yarn from my stash without realizing that the brown yarn I grabbed (Yarn Bee Andes Alpaca) has been discontinued. Oops. But there are definitely substitutions that will work if you don't have any on hand. I would recommend Yarn Bee Tender Touch in Sable, Loops & Thread Charisma in Espresso, or I Love This Chunky! Yarn in Heathered Brown, or you can always check out this handy yarn substitution site for more ideas. If you're interested in an ad-free printable PDF version of this pattern, you can find one on Ravelry. (And a special thank you to everyone who supports my blog and keeps it running!) Stitch Glossary: st(s) = stitch(es) ch = chain ss = slip stitch sc = single crochet inc = sc increase (work 2 sc into the same st) dec = sc decrease (I prefer to use an invisible decrease st) BLO = back loop only Materials:
Gauge: 2” = 9 sc sts, 2” = 9 rows Finished acorn is about 12" tall Gauge isn't crucial for this project as long as your stitches are tight enough to keep in the stuffing. I tend to crochet tightly, so if you're a looser crocheter, I recommend sizing down a hook. Note: This pattern is worked in continuous rounds without joining. I recommend using a stitch marker and moving it after each round to help you keep your place. Hello! I absolutely LOVE acorns (for some reason 😆) and am so excited to make a giant crocheted one. I do have four projects in line for completion but often things get moved around in the queue! 🤣🤣.
